LOL! Poor Kyri! <3
I love John’s face in the first frame, perfect facial expression 😀
Strange. She didn’t run around naked back in the woodlands of Pennsylvania.
I think that’s metaphorical nakedness. Or possibly ritual nakedness — deer have rituals too! Perhaps it’s dawn on the equinox.
Good point. 🙂 There’s definitely a metaphor of nakedness and vulnerability to strangers in the panel. On a literal level she could be naked for ritual purposes. I was going for a morning fetch of water at the well. But any interpretation is fine. I like the ritual too. Deer society and customs is something I want to explore in the future.
Shady – Yes Kyri is like a fish out of water, or rather a deer out of the forest.
Roar – Thanks. 🙂
Lunaroki – Good point. 🙂 Being wild, uncivilized folk, the deer in the Endstone universe live somewhat au natural. The problem is how to convey this in a webcomic that is generally work friendly. In previous scenes I tried to imply nudity with hair acting as a sensor. In a long scene like the massacre of Kyri’s tribe by Drakyl, it’s difficult to maintain so I had to resort to grass skirts and such. On this page, I felt I could get away with a quick nude shot and still keep it safe for work. The child makes it innocent and not overtly sexual I think. But I may have crossed the “safe for work” line here for some people. I guess it depends on one’s mores.
Again, good point. I’m just trying to get as close to the line as possible but not cross it.
Kyri’s “What?” face is sooooo epic!
And of course they stare! If a sexy young deer walked around naked on the streets I wuld stare too!
Thanks. 🙂 It was fun to draw Kyri’s face in that panel. 🙂
awesome in color!(your black/white art was great too though!)
Thanks again, Jerrie. 🙂
Might be a couple of days late and I doubt anyone will see it at this point but I came up with a poem about that last frame this morning.
Kyri and Cole went for a stroll to fetch a pail of water
Drawing stares, for each was bare, both mother and daughter.
As for the child making the scene innocent, one might look at it that way, or one might see it as moving the scene into the realm of kiddy porn. Depends on one’s point of view I suppose.
LOL. Great poem!
Kiddy Porn? Do you think so? That never crossed my mind. It just seemed like something you’d see if visiting a primitive living family from the wilds of the Amazon or something. Now I’m second guessing this panel. Perhaps I’ll change it later. 🙁
Nah, I don’t really. I can see how some people might see it that way, but there’s really nothing titillating or exploitative about the scene. The way I look at it, if I’m the first person to say something about that possibility after this many days I’d say you’re safe to leave it as is. I’m a bit of a perv, so if there was anything naughty about that scene I’d have been cheering and making wolf whistles by now. 😉
Cool. Thanks. 🙂
Been a lurker for a few months now and doing a re-read; didn’t young Cole used to be in that last panel as well? The comments above seem to support this recollection. Though I also kindof doubt that anyone will be reading the comments on a page from 2 years ago, so i’m not exactly expecting a response….
You have a response. 🙂
Yes. You are correct. Young Cole used to be in the last panel. I edited her out in the summer of 2013.
