I think it has been well proven by now that Tony likes to throw the occasional monkey wrench in the meta.
While that would be the expected thing in a story nowadays, it is by no means required and in fact only really been a thing for the last 70 years or so anyway – just look at old timey literature. I’m actually kinda glad that writers are gradually reducing the effectiveness of Plot Armor. It makes the story more exciting, as actions actually matter when they have consequence.
Umm, if he is able to change the universe (and since it wasn’t originally a tower, so even that must be able to change) can’t he just stop the explosion?
Except only Simon would know how to do that. Jon is not a stonecraft science expert like Simon, he’s just a medieval stoner with the memories of an investor, neither of which involving science. The only reason he can interact with the helmett is as the memory backup for the world, which means he can’t do anything else.
Still, restoring the world also means restoring Pablo as the Banestone and Lightstone owner. And since Pablo alone could free both Jon and Kyri, i don’t see how he could not here. One problem though : Pablo is still a pile of bones right now, the hero party needs to think about restoring him before leaving the area, or he’ll be trapped with his son.
Maybe not. If light can escape the Time-void, (something must, or Simon would’ve been unable to reach the ‘real’ world and control the Banestone Rocker) then so can Pablo.
That being said, Jon does have something of a point. If he’d gone about trying to stop Drakyl in a different way, all this might not’ve happened. And, in any case, someone has to do it.
Except Simon was never suspended in Time, he was simply trapped his his own pocket dimension. Notice how anyone in that dimension can still feel, think and follow events of the main worlds, unlike what happenned to both Jon and Kyri after Jon as Time-Killer was defeated : we clearly see that when Pablo frees them, it’s like no time at all has passed for either of them.
As for Jon’s point, it’s the typical thinking of a guilt-striken man. As i’ve often seen in various stories, you have 2 paths of heroism, and they are both well expressed here, through Kyri and friends (including Pablo) VS Jon.
The easiest (though it’s still hard at times) and most obvious, walked by most heroes, is the path of righteousness, where you do anything as long as it’s the right thing to do, morally speaking. One condition to follow that path however, is to never ever have fallen to the “dark side”. IF you do, even if you come back from it, you can never walk this path again, though the other one becomes open to you.
The other path is the path of redemption. It’s one where, having fallen to darkness in the past, you better understand it and as such can defuse situations or make better choice that righteous heroes won’t, most of the time. You can even see the potential of redemption in ennemies, and act accordingly. It does come at a price however, that you’re always seeking redemption and forgiveness for your past actions, and sometimes becoming blind to your friends’ forgiveness because there will still be that one person, most important of all, that will still not forgive you : your own self. Some manage to get that ultimate forgiveness and as such put their soul at piece while still being alive, but these are rare.
I’m just so confused about how the helmet worked while disconnected from the spire, and how the spire works at all (regarding world-building) without the two stones properly placed in the spire’s receptacle…
The Endstone and Banestone are indeed currently embedded into the (slightly crushed) console right now. The SPIRE itself being some kind of wish-granting machine that worked just a little too well.
Also, Simon sort of implied back here that he didn’t really know why the helmet worked at a distance at all, much less the limitations of doing so.
