12.77 Endstone: “Destiny Awaits” (The End, Volume 2)
This is the end of the Endstone, at least for volume one. I don’t know when I will be back. After six plus years of grinding-out this comic I need some time off.
I just wanted to let you know that creating this comic was a wonderful journey, and I appreciate you coming along for the ride. In 2009, as a lark, just to see what kind of reaction I would get, I posted the first few pages of this comic on Drunk Duck. In the first year, Endstone won “Best Fantasy Comic” on that site and that gave me the confidence to start my own site and continue the story to its conclusion. It took longer than I expected, but I had a blast honing my comic-making craft. I’d never worked with sequential art before, so it was a great learning experience.
Most importantly I wanted to thank you readers, both longtime and new. Your interest kept me going, even when I felt like giving up sometimes. One of the great things about doing this comic is I met some wonderful folks through comments and emails. I always looked forward to our discussions. And a big thanks goes out to whoever started the Endstone TVtropes site and to those who kept it going with updates. That was cool. And a special thanks to those readers who linked back to the Endstone site from various forums and places on the internet.
What’s in store for the future?
After a break, I’m going to touch up the artwork and prepare the project for publishing as a graphic novel. I’ll either use an existing publisher or publish it myself. I’ll let you know when it will become available. Also, I’d like to explore other projects that I literally have on the drawing board. And of course, I’d like to continue the adventures of the Montaine family, so stay tuned. At this time I just can’t say when I’ll be back. I’ll make announcements on this site when the time comes. Until then, join the email list, or subscribe via RSS, or follow me on Twitter.
All in all, it was my pleasure to entertain you.
See you soon,
Tony
I love this comic, it’s a good but sad, sad, sad moment.
Has six years really gone by so fast?
Thank you so much for sharing your vision with us via your artist and storytelling talents. I know you sweated blood at times to get it out there.
Y’know I’ll be eagerly awaiting whatever project next comes down the line from you. ^_^
Thanks for this wonderful ride. I wish you the best with all your projects, and, of course, I’ll be waiting for those future adventures of the Montaine family.
Bravo, sir!! I thoroughly enjoyed the adventures you put forth and am sad to see the end of the chapter, but everything must have a beginning and an end. (feelin’ philosophical today 🙂 ) Take all the time you need and hope to see you again in the future. Please don’t fall off the face of the Earth like some comic authors have!!
My my, nice joke and great way to end this story arc.
I feel wierd to say the least. On one hand i can’t wait to get to see the next story arc, and on the other hand i don’t want it to be rushed, as i always say. I want it to be as good as possible no matter if i have to wait longer for that. But either way, i do want that sequel to eventually come. And i want it badly. 🙂
A wonderful end to a most original, funny, tragic and entertaining tale.
RSS subscribed, and eagerly awaiting news of the Montaine family’s further mishaps and misadventures, or of any other projects you tackle.
Many thanks 🙂
Sad to see this end, but it’s been a great story. 😀
Thank you Tony, I enjoyed the series even if I did not comment much on it. Enjoy your time off and I hope to see you back in action 🙂
A great end to a great story! Always leave them laughing. I look forward to what happens in the future. Thank you for the wonderful story and art.
I loved this comic. A lot. I know I came in much later than some longtime readers, but I truly enjoyed becoming part of this and reading this. It’s a wonderful story, and I can’t wait for new projects! When the graphic novel comes out, I’d love to patronize you by buying this. You’re amazing, Tony. I really appreciate moments when you made me smile while I was down, brightening my day. I especially appreciate your care for all your readers. You haven’t gotten rid of me yet! I’ll be back, my friend!
Thank you. This was a real joy and I loved it. It’s always a little sad when a favorite webcomic comes to an end, but it’s also satisfying.
It’s been six years? Incredible. On a further note: another webcomic i have followed is finished. Starslip, Evil Inc, Zxipi (yes, i know, i am sick) and now Endstone 🙁
Congratulations on finishing volume one! A bittersweet accomplishment, but quite a milestone. Thanks for sharing with us! Best of luck on your future projects.
“”Congratulations on finishing volume one! A bittersweet accomplishment, but quite a milestone.””
Absolutely! Having followed it for years I will miss it! A great story!
This has been a fun ride! Hope you’ll continue making comics!
I just noticed the, “There is soup in my hair,” joke. Great line that I misread the first time. I love the joke.
One of the most truly creative premises and world I have seen in a long time. Very well done.
Thanks for sharing your creation — glad to hear you enjoyed it as your readers did. 🙂
Thank you very much. I have enjoyed the ride.
Great job, Tony! *clapclapclapclaps*
I’ll certainly miss my regular Endstone fix…
Going to miss reading this. Thank you for sharing it.
I just wanted to say that I’ve been reading this since Year 1 (and occasionally commenting), and I’ve enjoyed the story very much. I was hooked from my first discovery. I love the artwork, I love the world-building, and I love the ‘comic book’ format. Thank you very much for your hard work, and I look forward to the next project!
Congratulations on finishing it ! I am sorry to see it end (pun intended), but all good things must come to an end eventually, I guess.
Do you have a working Donate (paypal) link ? The one on your Support page just opens the Paypal splash page.
Fixed the PayPal link. I wonder how long that’s bee out. 🙁
Thanks so much for your interest in making a donation, wazza. 🙂
Thanks!
My most sincere congratulations Tony. I’ve read your comic through and through, caught it some three years ago (when you move from black and white to color, more or less) I would say, and have been a silent reader ever since.
I enjoyed your story, and wanted to express my feelings for your work. Greatly done!
Very nicely ended! As someone else has already said, one of the most creative premises I’ve seen yet, pulled off very satisfyingly too. Congratulations on actually finishing this comic. That’s an achievement, considering too many comic authors have given up before the end…
Couldn’t help wondering what happened to Simon, though. Did he make it through the wilderness? Or maybe that loose end could be material for the next series in this world. 😉 The adventures of Simon the Ordinary, beginning with running away from the Montaines with the memory, “once I was a god, but now I’m just an ordinary man trying to survive in a hostile world…”. 😛
Or maybe it will allow him to come back as a mastermind again in the future, since he’s also a stoner after all and a powerful one too. :p
Waitwait, is that inn levitating?
Not really. If it were, you’d see its shadow all around it, not just on one side of it. Ever noticed shadow angles with the moon, when the latter is not yet “vertical” in the sky ? 😉
A month after this last page has been posted, I still find myself checking Endstone every day, watching for news from Tony… I don’t think I’ll ever stop checking.
And you’re not the only one, my friend. 🙂
