Yeah, the skin has a “banded” look. I admit it’s not too prevalent in the earlier art, but as this project progresses over 6 or 7 years, it’s a given that characters are going to change. In the original concept art Vandric was very “banded” and I’m subconsciously drifting back towards that.
As for Vandric’s role at the inn, he sorta’ is the bouncer in a way. He’s always lurking and he’s always looking out for Kyri. He can’t really stay at the inn without drawing attention. He seems to have a knack for showing up when needed. Especially on the rare occasion where Kyri can’t handle a problem, if that would ever happen. 😉
Just need to give Vandric some character developpment to explain that, then. 😉
For now, i’ll assume he’s just a baby head fused to a plated armor made alive or something like that… 😀
As for Vandric not drawing attention, well that can be fine for a bouncer as long as he’s taken seriously, so he could stick in the inn wearing his helmet and stay in there like a statue, everybody would understand that he’s the bouncer, no question asked.
Vandric has an axe.
Does Vandric need an axe? Isn’t it kinda like Kyri a few strips back… weapon reduces character lethality? Or is the axe an intimidation thingy again? In which case the axe needs flames. And a talking skull. Yush! 🙂
Actually it depends on the wielder. Vandric being a strength based tank rather than a martial-based fighter like Kyri or Herrick, it makes sense that he gets to be talented with strength-based weapons like axes, specially battle axes, as they will add the weight of the weapon to their own strength for more power into the strike.
Although this one as a stone-made blade, like prehistoric axes. That’s wierd.
Expanding on what DK said, a physical weapon also improves reach, making it that much more difficult to hit back. Especially for a giant like Vandric, it makes for a nasty opponent.
That, and a giant bladed weapon works wonders for intimidation. 😉
Huh… I was right. Wonder why his appearance startled her?
Well, she’s no telepath, she could not guess who it was.
My question is : why the design of the hand skin in previous panel ? Seemed medieval armored, not reptilian.
Also, what’s his role in the inn if he’s not a bouncer ?
Look at his right hand (and left arm, for that matter) in the last panel, his skin is made of some sort of plates.
