I suggested it’s in his mind for a pun above. We certainly don’t know yet, but given the whole story, the recent events and the name of his(?) little project… I’d say what is in his mind becomes real. The ham-sandwich remained after the experiment was seemingly concluded (though they apparently didn’t shut off the device).
Not sure where the frogs came, but the woman’s response probably made him think of a doe and the man’s of a thrashing bear. And the wolf in dinosaur’s clothing? I’m guessing that’s the flower-head at the console.
So while the “most definitely insane” seems to suggest it’s all in his head, I’m not inclined to believe the dinosaur. Though it’s certainly possible to be both insane and have anything you think become real, which would be bad news for everybody…
But I don’t think he’s been seeming particularily insane yet, although his GATES version does give off slight signs of insanity.
I’m not so sure, I think that this Dinosaur hasn’t actually been changed. While GATES can make his imagination real, I think the feedback might be making him hallucinate.
Consider that the Dinosaur seems completely casual and dosn’t comment on his new body. Nor on the other animals.
It’s plainly obvious that GATES has lost control.
And I get the impression that he’s just started screaming at nothing. It’s the most likely conclusion that would make the dinosaur question GATES’ sanity rather than say turn it off.
Well that’s getting into the philosophical, if it’s in everybody else’s head as well, then it’s what passes for reality around here – or at the very least the distinction disappears.
And in the majority of the story the characters possess form and abilities that can’t be merely imagined; on the other hand when the “experiment” was about to be shut down they were seemingly taking on mundane forms.
Have we ever seen an ordinary animal in Endstone world? While it’s the first talking animal, we’re still far from the antropomorphic animals of Endstone that seem animal mostly in culture and the view of other people.
Except that when they were coming out of it, they were as they were before it started — they did not show any effects of having been either banged up the way they were after all that adventure, even with delusions about what they were actually doing, or wasted away as they would be if they did not move but merely hallucinated.
Not sure why it’s “Except”, but… that bit about their “returning normal” is the question, isn’t it? On top of that, Jon has a long history in this world… including it is said witnessing his father Pablo’s heinous murder. And now rise from the dead, as it were.
Yet, at the same time, GATES told him he’s in reality an investment banker. There’s clearly a connection between them and the reality as we know it as demonstrated by the Eternity Spire itself, but it seems to break for some important concepts like death perhaps. I’m reasonably certain time passes at different rates at least.
On the other hand the world of Endstone could have sprung into existence ready-formed with any history and memories desired. Can we even be sure what really happened, or what memories are true?
Well, #$#%.
I hate when that happens…
Merely insane? He’s gotta be totally off his rocker to imagine a misspelling like that! Still, eger to see where this is going…
Fixed. Thanks.
Why so “eger” (um, eager?) to correct others’ spelling (before your own)?
😉
Next step : dragon!! That rocks!
I’ll say.
So the Dinosaur is really a person, it’s all in his head?

Only if it’s in everybody else’s head, too. But I think this points to his having actually changed the world, so that so many people became animals.

As well it should – that ‘dinosaur’ is the Philoso-raptor, and as a Meme made flesh he’d be the perfect foil to posit an internal question.
Ha! Pun of the week, certainly!
😆

And the compy peed the carpet.
I think I’d rather have a wolf after me than a ‘raptor. Wolves have cooler songs named after them for one thing…
I agree with the talking dinosaur!
Wow, I really don’t get to say that enough.
