Thirded… if that’s possible. I don’t mind the Colindra change, myself. She looks a bit like someone I know now actually. But never, ever should you feel this is a bad project, Tony. I love it so much and I would cry if this site went down forever. Not only do I like the comic, I like talking to you guys, because you put up with my awkwardness and we all share a love for this web-comic. Thank you, Tony, for everything you do for this web-comic and its fan base. I never knew anything like this before- this was my first web-comic, and now I’m into them- and I probably won’t ever find anything like it again.
Ok, why is Colindra no getting “filled with the abundances of the modern world”? She should be…
Did someone rocked the Tony Stone (or Whatever Stone) to change reality?
I’m confused. π
Actually, a quick jaunt into the archives will show that the previous pages have been reconnect to match. Fine enough l, but now it feels like Colindra’s voice (her word choice, such as ‘foo’ doesn’t seem to fit.
I changed Colindra’s alternate personality because “Fat Cole” was in poor taste.
Originally, the idea was to give a vain character a condition that would seem horrible to her. However, since I didn’t get a chance to explore this and no humbling lesson about vanity was learned, I felt the wrong message was being conveyed.
And this is no exercise in political correctness. I’ve poured too much of my life into this project not to do it right or at least have something in the end that I’m not embarrassed by.
As for the site being down, like most creative types, I have a love/hate relationship with my work. I honestly didn’t want to see Endstone for a while so I pulled the plug.
Most importantly I’m glad you folks came back. π I’ll have an update this weekend.
Understood. As an amateur composer, I totally sympathise with having periods of self-criticism / self-doubt where I feel like throwing many hours’ (days’, months’, even years’) worth of work out the window because I feel like it’s not going anywhere. Mostly I just needed to get away from it all for a little bit, and when I come back to it, it doesn’t look quite that bad after all. π
Hence the reason I’ve never posted any of my supposedly-open-source code or getting-halfway-decent animations anywhere – as the creator, I notice every tiny flaw and am never completely happy with how it turns out.
It’s just as bad as writer’s block, if my experience with college papers and DMing is anything to go by.
“Came back” ? The website is in the webcomic folder of my bookmarks, and i click “open all bookmarks from that folder” multiple times on a daily basis… :p
Still, i’m kind of surprised you retconned Cole’s modern design like that. Did you retcon her when seen from the window shortly before Simon’s escape from his prison dimension ?
As for depicting her vain, there’s more than one way to do it. But it’s true that with so little interaction with us it’s very difficult.
If i were you, i’d keep the parallel modern universe alive, secretly, as to bring it back in a future arc where the overstone universe characters would physically meet and interact with their modern universe counterparts. π
Yeah, I still have to retcon the silhouette in Issue 10. As usual you are on top of things, DK.
As for the parallel universe coming back… I don’t know. It’s a good idea but I’m very eager to explore the “overstone world.” In fact, this story arc has gone on way longer than I originally outlined. My work method is to outline the story and then storyboard it and then break it down into pages/chapters. I estimated this story would take about 8 issues but we’re already on issue 12 (which will be a long chapter). That’s an extra two years of work!!!!!!! I can’t wait for it to end, honestly.
That’s the big lesson I learned from this project: stories in sequential form unfold at a much slower pace than anticipated. So keep the story simple yet full of impact. So if I continue this comic, I don’t think I’ll have time to go back to the alternative universe. There are too many other things to explore and I’m growing old as we speak. π
I actually really like the alternate alternate Colendra. It seems to indicate that Simon is losing it a little- he can’t get his story straight. Alternatively, there is no way Simon could bribe Cole with an overweight version of herself.
I’m so glad you returned, though. Plus I just got finished drawing a page of my own webcomic- again- because I had a better idea and decided it needed revision. It’s actually really nice to see that I’m not the only person who goes “Gah!” from time to time.
First off, I wanted to apologize for my part in the debacle in the comments for the previous version of this page. I clearly did not express my views on the matter appropriately and left it open to misinterpretation. For the record, my intent was never to imply a link between a person’s weight and their intelligence; if anything, the comment was a little self-deprecating as I am struggling with a slow but ever encroaching weight issue of my own and I’ve grown far too lazy to stop it. Nonetheless, my attempt to add to the discussion clearly derailed it instead, and I am sorry for any pain that had caused.
I will likely refrain from commenting at all in the future, but I will be reading until the end.
Absolutely no need to apologize, my friend. I never felt any of the previous comments were offensive. Things were just getting heated and it forced me to make a decision I was already leaning toward.
And I deleted all previous commnets so there could be a clean slate. I hope you continue to comment on Endstone. I welcome it in fact. Also, let me know if you ever want to take down this apology (either here or via email) and I can delete it. As I said before, no need at all. π
In addition to Tony’s response, if it can make you feel better, you say you only have a slow weight issue. Mine is all but slow (male, 1m76 height, went from 56kg to 95kg weight), and even if i’d like to get slimmer it’s not really poisonning my life. π
What you need to do is feel well in your body, regardless of its problem. It’s a matter of learning to adapt until the problem is solved. π
There’s nothing whatsoever wrong with being “comfortably spherical,” aside from one’s own self-esteem. While people (meaning “those guys”) are and always will be a-holes, the heck do they know about anything? And more importantly, why should anyone care what some douchebag thinks?
I am soooo glad to see this site back! I’ve been following this comic for years, and it’s honestly one of my favorites. Can’t wait to see how this all turns out!
Long time listener, first time caller. Put me down as someone who was super bummed the site was down and super happy to see it back up.
As an amateur comic writer myself, I think you can drive yourself crazy worrying about not hurting anyone’s feelings, but I think it is to your credit you thought hard about about what you meant to do and came up with a solution that you feel good about.
And, “This is bad. The president isn’t influenced by Wall Street anymore!” Loved it. That would make a Goldman Sachs banker realize they were in an alternate reality.
Ah, the weight thing. I run a ‘World Naked Bike Ride’, and I invite every one. Most of our riders are ‘oversized’. But a sub plot is ‘body acceptance’ – I am male 182 cm / 100kg and I just towed a woman up hill in a upgraded baby trailer, just to show that cyclists CAN do the shopping. My trailer record is a 75kg Quadriplegic Male. I was often faster than other riders in the group.
And I should say, great comic, Tony. Have been enjoying it for ages. I saw the ‘Fat Colindra’ as a comment on the product of two clearly capable parents being destroyed by unsustainable consumption. ( I like Physics, hate Economists). Sustainabilty is another sub-plot of WNBR rides.
Cool.:) It’s always good to hear from a long time reader. π And yes, that’s how I saw “Fat Cole” too, but without a chance to develop that in the story, she just came across as callous, in my eyes at least.
As a long time reader I did not find “fat Cole” in poor taste, but a reflection of a glutenous and lethargic society. And I honestly thought I missed something π
Glad to see the website finally came back from its technical difficulties. π
Seconded.

The spire has been rebooted according to psycho scientists grand plan
Eh political correctness at work… I am glad i live in a country where this brand of stupidity isn’t even known about. Yet π
I am glad I am no the only one who noticed Colindra’s “differences”. I am curious to know why she was changed from previous releases.
Actually, a quick jaunt into the archives will show that the previous pages have been reconnect to match. Fine enough l, but now it feels like Colindra’s voice (her word choice, such as ‘foo’ doesn’t seem to fit.

No way I’m letting this vanish forever.

Whoa… and I was worried because I thought something bad happened to you… Was it just because of colindra or was there something else to it?
I appreciate the concern. π
The Colindra thing was a sort of final straw, but mostly I was just frustrated in general and needed a time out.
It’s all good now. π

Don’t worry about that now, i’m just exploring possibilities for a (far ?) future story arc, not changing the way the current one is headed. π

Brilliantly hilarious! And pretty much the only scenario I can imagine where I would agree with the statement.
