I love this scene, it’s a lot deeper than what the comic relief part suggest. Simon has never been a man of action before, he’s a stereotyped sceintist and as such a pure intellectual. With that jump, it’s the end of an “innocence”, and he’s going to improve physically, learning to be capable on the battlefield. Very symbolic.
Weeeell.. Certainly *hoping* he’ll become a splatasaurus, but it’s pretty unlikely since that’d remove the chief bad guy from play in the middle of the hike to the climax.
Maybe he’ll at least make a big crater and throw up from motion sickness or shock or something.
At least he looked, before he leapt. Granted it has little chance to improve his safety for this action.
At least the Doctor had the Tardis when saying that.

Very insightful as always. 🙂 I like your take on the subtext of the scene. 🙂
They called me mad! Lets see what they think now that I’ve destroyed the world!
Allright, bets everyone! Who’s betting he’ll go *splat*?
*raises hand*

Thanks for stoppin’ by, folks. There’s a few familiar faces I haven’t seen in a while. Good to know you’re still enjoying the story. 🙂
He is certainly very brave and dumb, for not testing on himself if the banestone still works.
There goes my heel-face-turn theory.
