Cast page added

Howdy folks!

Just giving you a heads up that I created a Cast page for Endstone.  The link is in the menu bar near the top of the page.  So far, I only have blurbs for Kyri Thunderhead and the Montaignes — Jon, Cole, and Pablo.  Entries for the other characters will follow when I get some extra time.

Also, I’ve been trying to establish a presence on the Topwebcomics list.  So if you get a quick second, I appreciate if you could cast a vote.  It really helps me to get the word out about this little webcomic.  I’m going to be posting incentives every day, Monday thru Friday.  The incentives will mostly be roughs of what I’m currently working on with Endstone. I hope that’s alright.

Keep on keeping on,

Tony

Interview

I was interviewed by Brian Allen of the excellent webcomic “The Ends.”

If you get some time, check out the interview over at the Drunk Duck forums.

Here’s an excerpt:

I was very surprised to learn that you were inking digitally, because your brush work has so much variation and life to it. What advice do you have for those who want to ink digitally?

I learned to ink with a brush first, but I don’t know if that’s really necessary. What matters is learning line variation and tone values. Every day   as a warm up I used to copy an entire panel from one of my favorite artists like John Buscema on “Savage Sword of Conan” or David Mazzuccelli on “Batman Year One.” I just payed attention to how spotted blacks and line variation created depth within the panel borders. And one important thing I learned from the great Wally Wood: “When in doubt, black it out.”

Also, if your looking for great webcomics to read, I mightily recommend Brian’s excellent webcomic, The Ends .   It’s one of my favorites.

Animated Endstone

November 8th, 2009 | by Tony

When I first started working on Endstone two years ago, I had wanted to do the art in a Bruce Timm/ Jack Kirby animation style. I’m a huge fan of the animated Justice League series, and I thought that using a simpler style (like in animation) would speed up the production process. And also I kinda’ like the streamlined dynamics that animation has to offer. Plus Jack Kirby styled art is classic and I really like how Bruce Timm has built on Kirby’s poses and storytelling techniques

However I abandoned it. I found it was actually more time consuming trying to learn an unfamiliar style, than just drawing in my natural, more detailed style. Plus, I’m more of a fan of John Buscema, George Perez, and John Byrne. Those are the guys I grew up with and emulated as a kid and I think my technique bears that out.

So these are some of the design-sheets for the “animated” Endstone. Most of this stuff was done before I went digital so it’s either brush inked on bristol board or Pitt markers on a sketchbook. Color in photoshop.

I have a bunch more of this kind of stuff. Eventually, I’ll have an art section where this stuff will be displayed.
