Commentary: In this flashback scene we get a little glimpse into the life of Colindra Montaine before she came into possession of the Banestone. She was living in the court of Lord Quandel. If you don’t remember, Cole, looking for the Endstone pieces, erased Quandel’s mind in issue 1. And Primrose was the girl Cole tossed across the room also in Issue 1.
Being half animal, Cole is not accepted very well by society. It would be analogous to being half African-American and living free in the Pre-Civil War South of the United States. Only it’s worse because animals in the Endstone Universe are not only worker-slaves, but also some are food. Hybrid human animals are even killed out-right as “abominations” in some areas.
On this page, Kryi reflects a little bit on life, it’s mysterious purpose, and why bad stuff happens to all of us.
Also, she mentions her “warrior gifts.” How she transitioned from a meek, simple deer to a hardened warrior is going to be the main story of this issue so I hope you’ll come along for the ride.
